ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT) FOR ANXIETY

How can ACT help with your anxiety?

Similar to CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you clarify what is truly important and meaningful to you. ACT helps you clearly define your values and encourages you to live the life of the person you want to be.

The goal of ACT is to reduce your struggle, control, and judgment against your own unwanted thoughts or feelings. ACT promotes psychological flexibility by teaching you to view your own thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental way, thus increasing acceptance of yourself.

You can provide context for your symptoms of anxiety when you shift your focus more on the big picture, such as anxiety being a normal response to challenges in life. By practicing self-compassion and a deeper understanding of yourself, you are less apt to avoid the situations that are causing you anxiety, thus breaking the perpetuating cycle of anxiety.
